Sakarya University EU KA2 Project

Sakarya University, which is rapidly advancing towards becoming a Research University, continues to register its scientific achievements in the international arena. The university assumes a leading role in contributing to sustainable development goals within the scope of the coordination of the European Union (EU) project with a budget of 780.000 €.

This groundbreaking project, which will be implemented with the participation of 5 different countries, aims to reduce construction costs by encouraging the use of environmentally friendly construction materials obtained from local sources and strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions, professionals and communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Sakarya University expands its scientific studies at the international level by focusing on EU projects as well as TÜBİTAK projects. This project, which supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals such as industry innovation, responsible consumption, climate action, development partnerships and sustainable cities, reveals the university's scientific vision and understanding of social responsibility.

Within the scope of the project, leading universities from Portugal, Mozambique, Tanzania and Somalia will also support Sakarya University. Civil Engineering Department under the project coordination of Lecturer Dr. Tuba Tatar other researchers like Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emiroğlu and Prof. Dr. Samir Afifi will bring a new breath of fresh air for sustainable development to the African continent for 36 months.

Project Coordinator Dr. Tuba Tatar stated that capacity building activities with courses, training programs and laboratory improvements will be organized in the target countries within the scope of the project and said, “As Sakarya University, we are proud to carry out an EU project of this scale for the first time. We aim to transfer our knowledge on building low-cost, easily applicable and durable structures, especially to Sub-Saharan African countries where the need for shelter is intense. "This project is of great importance both academically and humanitarianly,"she said.

This international project of Sakarya University once again proves the university's scientific competence and determination to produce solutions to global problems. With this important step taken towards achieving sustainable development goals, the university will illuminate the future of both Turkey and Africa.
